Overview

Mount Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania, is the highest peak in Africa and one of the Seven Summits. The Machame Route, also known as the “Whiskey Route,” is a popular trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro and offers stunning scenic views.

The Machame Route typically takes 7 days to complete and covers approximately 62 miles (100 km). The trail starts in the dense rainforest and gradually ascends through several ecological zones, including alpine moorland, high desert, and arctic tundra. This gradual ascent helps acclimate climbers to the high altitude, reducing the risk of altitude sickness.

Along the way, trekkers will pass by several notable landmarks, such as the Shira Plateau, the Lava Tower, and the Barranco Wall. In terms of difficulty, the Machame Route is considered to be moderate to challenging and requires a good level of physical fitness. The trail is steep in places and requires several hours of hiking each day, but the stunning views from the summit make it a rewarding experience.

Overall, the Machame Route is an excellent choice for those looking for a challenging yet scenic trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. The success rate for this route is upto 80%-90%.
